How to Use Beaker Tongs Correctly




Beaker tongs are commonly used tools in the laboratory, used to clamp containers such as beakers, especially when the container temperature is high or direct contact needs to be avoided. The following is the correct way to use beaker tongs:

1. Preparation

Make sure that the material of the beaker tongs can withstand the temperature of the beaker to be clamped. Usually, beaker tongs are made of high-temperature resistant materials. Check whether the beaker tongs are intact and have no loose or damaged parts to ensure safety during use.


2. Clamping the beaker

Use the clamping part of the beaker tongs to firmly clamp the rim or side wall of the beaker, and avoid clamping the bottom of the beaker to avoid damaging the beaker or affecting the stability of the clamping. When clamping, the contact area between the clamping part of the beaker tongs and the beaker should be as large as possible to increase the firmness of the clamping.

3. Move the beaker

When moving the beaker, keep it stable and avoid quick or violent movements to prevent the liquid in the beaker from splashing or the beaker from falling. If the beaker needs to be tilted, the clamping part of the beaker tongs should be used to provide the necessary support to ensure the stability of the beaker.

4. Precautions

Avoid using beaker tongs to pick up overweight beakers to avoid damaging the tongs or causing safety hazards. When picking up high-temperature beakers, wear appropriate protective equipment, such as heat-resistant gloves, to prevent burns. After use, the beaker tongs should be placed in the designated location to avoid damage or loss due to random placement.
